History
Although many theories exist as to the origin of the game, it is believed to be around one thousand years old! Some say it was invented by the French, whereas most believe it was possibly first played by creative Viking children gathering firewood! The word 'Kubb' is derived from the word 'Kubben', which in Swedish means 'the branch'.

The resurgence of the game of Kubb as a popular game can possibly be attributed to the famous Kubb crazy party island of Gotland in Sweden, where the World Kubb Olympic tournaments are held annually.

I first encountered Kubb when I spent the year of 2002 in southern Sweden enjoying the Swedish lifestyle. It is hard not to notice Kubb as it is played at the park, at parties, BBQs, the beach, and even in garden bars and cafes. If the sun is out and people are gathered, there will be a game of Kubb not too far away!

So upon arriving home to New Zealand for Christmas, I made a set for my family. It proved to be a huge success as everyone enjoyed it regardless of age. Every time we played it in public, people would gather to watch and ask about it, often joining in on a game.

Having being ask to build sets by my friends, relatives and complete strangers alike, I teamed up with my brother Aaron to build Kubb sets in his workshop - Hence the formation of NZKubb.co.nz.
